Splat is a geek, a scientist, an interid explorer in the creative arts. Yoy should see some of his food photography. He's combined his love of cooking with photography and is making some amazing images. Seeing his strawberries here, I told him, "grasshopper make big hops". He replied, "gotta step it up, ya know". Keep steppin' Splat!

Tune in to Theory Radio!

Have you heard about Theory Radio? You should. Everyone's doing it, all the cool kids anyway. The internet radio station from the good people of Gigsville, and the inspiration for my diorama. Take a look at the schedule to see there are times when there's a real DJ, and other times it's the "Robo DJ". Music styles change often, but with a spin depending on the DJs mood and personality. For example, while typing this I've heard Nitrox play a "car" themed set with a rockin' surf guitar, Tom Waits, and a unusual 80's remix of Natalie Cole's "Pink Cadilac". The DJs encourage you to email or IM in requests, questions or shouts. In fact, BoogerX takes your questions and offers "good music and bad advice" (to be used for entertainment purposes only). It's wacky fun, check it out: Theory Radio

NYE 2005: Crib Crawl & Urban Sledding

For News Year's Kathleen and I hosted the beginning of a progressive dinner night, what we called the "New Years Eve Crib Crawl".

Leg 1: Scott and Kathleen's Cozy Commencement Crib
Leg 2: Petra and Julio's Plush Parkside Pad
(Champagne and Urban Sledding in the park at Midnight)
Leg 3: Jamie and Matt's Festive Finale Flat

This photo is of Tracy about to take flight in the make-shift urban sledding experience - consisting of a passenger in a landry basket heading downhill on a skateboard - but wait, there's more - about halfway down the hill the skateboard hits a 2x4 laid across the pavement and the passenger gos f-l-y-i-n-g!

Theory Radio Diorama

Theroy Radio Diarama - 2.jpg
Originally uploaded by Superaverage.

You remember dioramas, we all made one in the thrid grade. Back then, I made a cowboy on a horse in a ranch - i don't reemember why. Last week I planned to go to Diorama Club over in the East Bay (aka OaktownBootyville). This event was obviously an attempt to foster our regression back toward childhood, and channel it into something more creative than our usual pattern of working, eating, drinking, etc. I decided that I would make a diorama of my experience listening to Theory Radio one night. If you haven't been listening, you should.

My diorama is of the DJ's and people present that night as I cracked up listening from the other side of the bridge. I carved apples for their heads, yams for boddies, ginger for arms, jelly beans for tecate cans, saltine crackers for the floors and wainscoating. Go to my flickr pix, to see additional pics of this.

Do computer games affect kids?

Posting this in case you haven't heard it before: "Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music." - Author may be unknown, or that quote was made by Kristian Wilson of Nintendo, Inc. in 1989

It's just too funny to think of: the reality could almost validate all those skittish parental warnings we heard as a kid...
